Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda; hereinafter referred to as "CCC") will grand open "Karuizawa Commongrounds" (Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture) on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Karuizawa Town is loved by many people as one of the world's leading highland resorts, surrounded by lush greenery and abundant nature. In recent years, the area has become home to a wide variety of educational facilities, including schools that have attracted attention for their unique educational philosophies and international schools that attract students from all over the world. The area is also easily accessible, being just one hour by Shinkansen from Tokyo, and as a result, the number of people moving to the area and those living in two locations is on the rise.

In 2018, CCC opened Karuizawa Bookstore in this area. The bookstore not only sells books and magazines as a "town bookstore" in Karuizawa, a city that has not had a bookstore for a long time, but also functions as a community hub for the town. Karuizawa Commongrounds, which is about to have its grand opening, is a complex located in the forest and is dotted with a bookstore, Karuizawa Bookstore Nakakaruizawa Branch, an international school, a cafe, a co-working space and more. We will evolve it into a local community hub that fosters rich culture, interaction, and vitality; a workplace that fosters new ways of working and interaction among diverse talent; and a place of learning where people can discover what they love through play and learning and develop the skills to take on the future.

At Karuizawa Commongrounds, we will engage in co-creation with local residents and partner companies. To realize the sustainable use of renewable energy with the aim of achieving a carbon-free society, we will work on energy sharing, storing electricity generated by solar power generation in EVs and supplying it to the facility and neighboring areas. We will also provide a local compost pile and field, and implement a food circulation model within the community and an experiential food education program for children.

Through Karuizawa Commongrounds, CCC aims to become a local community hub that will enrich the lifestyles and lives of people in Karuizawa in the future, bringing together a diverse range of people, including residents, workers, and visitors, and fostering cultural exchange and excitement across generations.
