Karuizawa Commongrounds is a complex located in the forest, dotted with a bookstore, Karuizawa Bookstore Nakakaruizawa Branch, as well as cafes and co-working spaces. We will evolve it into a local community hub that fosters rich culture, interaction, and vitality; a workplace that fosters new ways of working and interaction among diverse talent; and a place of learning where people can discover what they love through play and learning and develop the skills to take on the future.
Through Karuizawa Commongrounds, CCC aims to become a local community hub that will enrich the lifestyles and lives of people in Karuizawa in the future, bringing together a diverse range of people, including residents, workers, and visitors, and fostering cultural exchange and excitement across generations.
Features of Karuizawa Commongrounds
1) Karuizawa Bookstore Nakakaruizawa Branch: A book and cafe with a coworking space
The core of the facility, Karuizawa Bookstore Nakakaruizawa Branch, offers a wide range of books on the theme of "lifelong learning," including art, architecture, design, and natural science, as well as a wide selection of genres that will enrich your daily life, such as food and children's books. In addition, as a BOOK & CAFE, you can enjoy books with coffee from "SHOZO COFFEE," and there is also a co-working space, where you can spend time concentrating in a calm and comfortable space.
2) Tenant buildings scattered throughout a 12,000m2 forest
Each tenant exists as a building in the vast forest of 12,000m2. You can enjoy a wide variety of tenants as you stroll through the forest, including PUBLIC Shokudo, where you can enjoy breakfast from 7am, RK DAYS, which sells side dishes and miscellaneous goods made with carefully selected ingredients, and Karuizawa Iburu, which sells smoked foods and seasonings that are carefully smoked at low temperatures in a workshop in Karuizawa.
3) Holding events that connect local people
Through Karuizawa Commongrounds, we plan to hold a variety of events, such as markets and festivals that bring together local residents, as a place to foster interaction and excitement among the diverse people who gather in Karuizawa.
4) The theme is "Sharing knowledge, food, and energy"
At Karuizawa Commongrounds, we will engage in co-creation with local residents and partner companies. To realize the sustainable use of renewable energy with the aim of achieving a carbon-free society, we will work on energy sharing, storing electricity generated by solar power generation in EVs and supplying it to the facility and neighboring areas. We will also provide a local compost pile and field, and implement a food circulation model within the community and an experiential food education program for children.
