Movie Impression Drawing Contest Executive Committee

Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., as the Movie Impressions Drawing Contest Executive Committee, held the "Movie Impressions Drawing Contest 2022" this winter, in which participants drew their impressions after watching their favorite movies, with the aim of cultivating children's imagination and expressiveness through movies and realizing a society that nurtures the heart. We received 1,561 submissions from all over the country, with many excellent works submitted. We are now pleased to announce the Grand Prize, Excellence Prize, and other prize winners selected from these entries.

■Grand Prize

Preschoolers' Division: "Kujirabito" by Chiharu Nogami (Okayama Prefecture)

The sight of the whale's blood staining the deep sea and the whale's valor and grandeur is overwhelming. The contrast in size between the whales and the people on the sea is striking, stimulating imagination of the fierce hunting scene.

・Elementary school lower grades division: "Kiki's Delivery Service" by Nakagawa Riko (Fukuoka Prefecture)

The painting of Ursula that Kiki stopped in her tracks and was captivated by, along with Kiki's feelings at the time, are vividly depicted. It is wonderful how the artist has researched the painting techniques used by Ursula in the story, and the composition is original, captivating with its delicate and fantastical worldview.

・Upper elementary school division: "The Secret World of Arrietty" by Airi Shinohara (Kagawa Prefecture)

The use of beautiful colors is so excellent that it almost looks like stained glass. Arrietty and Sho's hands are very impressive. The author has been able to capture Arrietty's complex emotions from the story and skillfully portray them in a way that overlaps with her own feelings.

Junior High School Division: "Sinking into the Womb" by Shizuka Tada (Fukuoka Prefecture)

The film deals with a subject that makes you want to cover your eyes, but the director has fully grasped the content and is able to portray the emotions with precise and sophisticated expression. The contrast between light and dark in the objects around the figure is also used to beautifully express their shapes and textures.

・General category: "Spirited Away" Uno Shiori (Yamaguchi Prefecture)

The sunlight and shadows are very realistic, and the pointillism creates a dreamlike world that feels even more nostalgic. "I'm sure we'll meet again. " With this wish in mind, the two of them hurry along, and the clear blue sky seems to be telling them that no matter what difficulties they face in the future, everything will be okay, and it warms my heart.

What is the Movie Impression Drawing Contest?
The "Movie Impressions Drawing Contest" is a contest in which participants watch a movie and draw a picture expressing their impressions. The event began in 2015 and has been well-received, with the area expanded each year, and from 2020 it has been held nationwide.

The "Movie Impression Drawing Contest" aims to foster rich sensibilities and expressive abilities by introducing children to movies, and also provides a way for parents and children to interact through the creation of impression drawings. We will also offer opportunities for people other than children to encounter films that will enrich their lives.

*The Movie Impression Drawing Contest is sponsored by the Boards of Education of 114 cities, towns, and villages in Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa.
