-SHIBUYA ART BASE launches as first step to support next generation artists-
Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / Representative Director, President and COO: Takahashi Yoshinori, hereinafter referred to as "CCC") and Tokyu Land Corporation (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / Representative Director, President and COO: Hoshino Hiroaki, hereinafter referred to as "Tokyu Land") are pleased to announce that they have concluded a "Urban Development Agreement" with the aim of creating excitement in the Greater Shibuya Area*1, centered around Shibuya. As the first step in this initiative, we will launch the art project "SHIBUYA ART BASE," which aims to liven up Shibuya through the power of art and support the next generation of artists.
"Urban Development Agreement" creates excitement through the power of culture
The two companies have concluded a "City Development Agreement" to build a comprehensive, mutually cooperative relationship in the greater Shibuya area, utilizing the various resources of both companies, such as their facilities and content, to hold events centered around culture, including art, games, music, food, and sports, and to support the next generation of artists, with the aim of creating a "bustling city that nurtures culture."
Shibuya Sakura Stage, which is scheduled to be completed in Sakuragaoka, Shibuya, will engage in a new form of "tenant co-creation" that goes beyond traditional lease relationships. Through events held at the Shibuya Art Collection Store (SACS), an event space located in Sakuragaoka, as well as at various locations throughout the greater Shibuya area, the project aims to create a lively town, foster community development, and promote area branding.
*1: The Greater Shibuya Area refers to the area within a radius of approximately 2.5 km from Shibuya Station, as defined by the Tokyu Group's urban development strategy "Greater SHIBUYA 2.0," which aims to create a sustainable city where "work," "play," and "life" are integrated. First "Urban Development Agreement" - About "SHIBUYA ART BASE"
By focusing on art, which is still less familiar in Japan than painting or sculpture and has limited opportunities to exhibit, the project aims to create a space where each artist can thrive as the main character, and to expand the circle of co-creation between artists and art fans in Shibuya, a city where young people with cutting-edge sensibilities and strong communication skills gather. It was started with the desire to provide and support the next generation of artists with a venue to showcase their work, and to create opportunities for artists from different genres to connect through this venue.
The project theme is "Might Be Classics."
第一回目の企画として、イベント会場「SACS」で、「Might Be Classics #1≪菅野歩美 個展「明日のハロウィン都市 / Halloween Cities of To-Morrow」を開催いたします。Once Shibuya Sakura Stage opens, events will continue to be held at the Street Market, a common area on the fourth floor of the facility.
□Project theme: Might Be Classics
It looks at the past of Tokyo and Shibuya, and looks ahead to the future, giving us hints for life from tomorrow onwards. What lies beyond these suggestions may be the standards, common sense, or traditions of 100 years from now. This project aims to show that such intriguing art is also art.
■Might Be Classics #1≪菅野歩美 個展「明日のハロウィン都市 / Halloween Cities of To-Morrow」≫
We will be holding a solo exhibition by contemporary artist Ayumi Kanno. Kanno is an artist who creates "alternative folklore" through computer-generated installations, imagining the history of a place and personal emotions to explore why people have woven together stories, legends, traditions, and ghost stories related to that place. For this exhibition, we will be asking participants to create works that consider and digest the "past and future" of Shibuya, which is currently undergoing a redevelopment project said to be a once-in-a-century event.
During the exhibition, three party events will be held to deepen understanding of the works and to help visitors become more familiar with "media art," a form of expression that emerged around 1990 and incorporates new technologies such as computers. At the event, you can experience a talk show with Mr. Kanno and guests, as well as a fusion of music and art by DJs active in Shibuya.
□Event Overview
・Event period: Sunday, June 18, 2023 to Friday, July 7, 2023
・Opening hours: 12:00~20:00
Venue: Shibuya Art Collection Store (SACS) 1F Sakuragaoka Front Building, 16-12 Sakuragaoka-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
