- Aiming to expand "a new era of experiential bookstores that fosters interaction in the community" -

Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and COO: Takahashi Yoshinori; hereinafter referred to as "CCC") and Nippan Group Holdings Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshikawa Eisaku; hereinafter referred to as "Nippan GHD") have announced that they will change the name of MPD Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Naga Toyomitsu; hereinafter referred to as "MPD"), a joint venture between CCC and Nippan GHD, and will launch a new joint venture company, Culture Experience Co., Ltd., which will integrate the franchise and wholesale businesses, on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Since 2017, TSUTAYA has been shifting its business from rental to bookstore. In the future, TSUTAYA will evolve into a bookstore where customers can experience lifestyle content that creates a culture centered around books in a community that is rooted in the local area.

Culture Experience Co., Ltd. values the idea of "Customer First" for customers and "Retail First" for franchised companies, and through the integration of distribution and sales that is unparalleled in the industry, will provide customers with a product selection that will please them and a richer reading experience, while also reforming the revenue structure and creating business synergies that leverage the strengths of both companies: MPD's distribution and TSUTAYA's customer contact points. In order to maximize store value and profits, we will work to improve the experience and spatial value of our "BOOK & CAFE," "SHARE LOUNGE," "trading card competition space," etc., improve store gross profit, and reform our franchise services, thereby creating a new store model.

This will strengthen our core as a bookstore, while also improving the business operations of franchise member companies that operate TSUTAYA stores in the region, and creating stores that are more supported by local people. We will also work to expand our "new-generation experiential bookstore that fosters local interaction" in various regions across Japan.
