"The works that win the TSUTAYA Comic Awards always become hugely popular, with some being adapted into anime or films, so I'm happy to be able to witness this historic moment again, just like last year. I learned about some works I didn't know about before, so I'd like to read them from now on. "

"I was shocked that I wasn't invited as a guest last year (laughs), but I was happy to be able to appear at the awards ceremony again this time. The grand prize winner, "Yomi no Tsugai," is truly amazing in that Arakawa-sensei has once again produced an interesting work without being crushed by the pressure he has placed on himself from having produced hit works in the past. About the "TSUTAYA Comic Awards Chosen by Everyone":http://tsutaya.jp/comic-awards_p/
Continuing since 2016, this is the only manga award in Japan that determines the next big hit, the "next breakout," comic work solely through reader votes. The goal is to collect votes from readers for incomplete manga works that have released up to five volumes (as of June 30, 2011), and to suggest new recommendations from readers to other readers.
The 5th Grand Prize winner, "My Dangerous Wife," and the 6th Grand Prize winner, "Yamada-kun and the Level 999 Love Story," were both made into TV anime that aired in April this year, creating a buzz. In addition, all previous Grand Prize winners have been made into TV anime, attracting attention, and this award allows comic fan users to be the first to find out what the next big hit will be, thanks to recommendations from the users.
