"Different Worlds," a work commissioned and produced by the creative unit "SPREAD" by the creative team of the CCC Marketing Research Institute (Director: Minoru Niihashi, hereinafter "CCC Marketing Research Institute") of CCCMK Holdings Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshinori Takahashi), has won the "Best of the Best" award in the Brand & Communication Design category of the Red Dot Design Award 2023, one of the world's three major design awards.
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world's leading design awards, organized by Germany's Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen. Divided into three categories: "Product Design," "Brand & Communication Design," and "Design Concept," the competition receives applications every year from companies, organizations, and designers from over 70 countries and regions around the world. Among them, "Best of the best" is an honorable award selected as the highest award in the category.
In 2022, CCC Marketing Research Institute was commissioned by Mirai Nagasaki Cocowalk (Mirai Nagasaki Co., Ltd.) to produce the spatial display and art for the food court renovation. We discarded preconceived notions of what a food court should be, and with the key theme of "Nagasaki Square," we planned a space that is characterized by the historical background of Nagasaki's role as a trade gateway connecting Japan with the world, and the lively atmosphere of a square where communication with nature is born, and we coordinated the artwork.
The winning work, "Different Worlds," is a series published by SPREAD. It was first unveiled as a result of an event at the food court of Mirai Nagasaki Cocowalk (operated by Mirai Nagasaki Co., Ltd.). The work, installed at Mirai Nagasaki Cocowalk, is 7.8m long and 2m high, and is made of 126,732 tiles, with 196 QR codes linking to government sites around the world that are recognized by Japan. The food court, a public space, is a place where we ask how technological advances have enabled people to connect with one another and expand their horizons with just a smartphone. Now, a year after opening, the seats around "Different Worlds" have become so popular that they fill up quickly, making the place very lively. This award was given to the entire series of works, as it was highly praised for its expression of learning about the world through a collection of QR codes.
This year's "Best of the Best" award was given to the combined "Different Worlds" tile work installed at Mirai Nagasaki Cocowalk and the "Different Worlds" canvas print work exhibited by SPREAD at the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art's special exhibition "Design Scope - Seeing the Wonders, Discovering the Wonders."
CCC Marketing Research Institute's creative production involves a wide range of creative production, from branding to promotional design and art production with artists, to help solve problems faced by local communities and companies. We will continue to work to create your future through the power of "data," "creativity," and "consulting."

・Comment on winning the award: We selected SPREAD as an artist who has reconsidered the value of food courts in commercial facilities, places where many people come and go, and who can create works that are in line with the times, social issues, and the local climate. We believe that one of the reasons we won the award is that by delivering "Different Worlds," we were able to create a space in a public space like a food court where communication can occur between nature, people, and the artwork. In the future, I would like to continue not only solving problems, but also creating spaces and producing creative works that will increase value.
