-The reason for the expectations is the specific evaluation of the government and its policies.

CCCMK Holdings Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takahashi Yoshinori; hereinafter referred to as "CCCMKHD") has launched the "School General Election Project" (https://youthvote.tsite.jp/) and its mission is to convey the voices of the younger generation to the world and create opportunities for social change.

The School General Election Project, which aims to create a society where the voices of the younger generation are listened to and the rules and systems necessary for the future are actively discussed, collects online votes once a year on the theme of "Political party most hopeful" with the aim of raising voting awareness among young people in their teens and twenties. This is the fifth time the contest has been held, and voting was accepted from Friday, September 29th to Tuesday, October 31st, 2023, with 3,277 votes received from people aged 10 to 29 nationwide.

This is the main visual for the results of the 5th

The political party that young people have the most hope for is the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in first place with 35.3%, followed by the Democratic Party for the People (DPJ) with 12.1% and the Constitutional Democratic Party (CDP) with 10.7%.

When asked which political party they have the most hope in, around 40% of young people voted for the Liberal Democratic Party (35.3%), citing reasons such as "because I feel they have stability in terms of employment and the economy," "because they have achieved success in diplomacy, such as the G7, visits to Hiroshima by leaders of various countries, and the rapid improvement in relations with South Korea," and "because I want my income (take-home pay) to increase by the same amount as or more than the rise in prices, I have high hopes for the LDP, which is currently the most powerful party."
Next, many young people voted for the Democratic Party for the People (12.1%), citing reasons such as "their proposals, such as reviewing wages and expanding the scope of benefit recipients to include households other than those exempt from taxation, are in line with the general middle class," and "among the national political parties, they have put forward policies that are the most convincing and likely to be realized, and Tamaki's aura is also good."
The next most popular answer was the Constitutional Democratic Party (10.7%), with reasons given including "because they have a high proportion of women among their large number of members and I thought they would be able to formulate policies from a variety of perspectives" and "because they aim to eliminate discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and to allow married couples to choose their own surnames."Next were the Japan Restoration Party (10.1%), Reiwa Shinsengumi (9.8%), Komeito (5.2%), Japanese Communist Party (3.4%), Suffrage Party (2.5%), 48 Women Politicians Party/NHK Party (2.1%), Social Democratic Party (1.0%), and "Other political parties" at 7.8%.

Here's a picture of why we're looking forward to it

The most frequently mentioned words in the "reason for expectation" section were "political party," "policy," and "LDP"

When the reasons for these expectations were analyzed using text mining, the most frequently occurring words among all voters were "political party," "policy," and "LDP."For the Liberal Democratic Party, which received the most votes, words such as "Kishida," "ruling party," and "Onoda Nozomi" stood out; for the Democratic Party for the People, which came in second, words such as "Tamaki," "stand by," and "tax cuts" stood out; and for the Constitutional Democratic Party, which came in third, words such as "LDP," "largest opposition party," and "separate surnames for married couples" stood out.

This is an image of the results of analyzing the reasons for expectations using text mining.

[Trends in vote share over the past three years] The Liberal Democratic Party maintains its top position but is declining, while the Democratic Party for the People improves its ranking.

Looking at the trends in each party's vote share since the first election, the Liberal Democratic Party has been the top vote-getter for five consecutive elections since the first election (October 2020). However, in the last two elections, the vote share has been declining, falling below 40%, and this time it was 4.3 points lower than the 39.6% in the fourth election (July 2022). The Democratic Party for the People, which came in second place for the first time this time, had been in fourth place until the third poll (October 2021), but rose to third place in the fourth poll (July 2022) and second place this time. The Constitutional Democratic Party, which had maintained second place until the fourth election, increased its vote share from the first to the third election, but in the last two elections it has remained in the 11% range, dropping to third place for the first time.

This is a graph showing the vote share trend over a period of about three years.

Comments from the School General Election Project

The results of the vote showed that the undisputed second place candidate changed places, and the vote share of each party also changed. Looking more closely at the "reasons for expectations," specific evaluations of the government and its policies, as well as references to individual lawmakers, were more prominent than in the past four polls. This time, the election was held at a time when the schedule for national elections had not yet been announced, so I feel that the voters tended to be young people who are regularly exposed to information about politics.
Also, as I'm voting for the "most promising political party" for the fifth time, I've realized that people are very passionate in their comments about their favorite party. In some political parties, there are certain members of parliament or party leaders whose names are frequently mentioned as reasons for their high hopes, and the comments about them are lengthy and often accompanied by specific anecdotes. If you look at the numbers alone, they are all the same "one vote," but I believe that these voices have more power than numbers. I hope that we can realize a political system in which such voices are properly reflected.

・Project name: School General Election Project

・Project start date: Tuesday, October 13, 2020
・Project details: The "School General Election Project" is based on CCC's founding intention of "providing a base for providing young people with information on new lifestyles," and is a "place" where young people who will be responsible for the future can co-create new discoveries and ideas that will serve as the foundation for living in the future. Aimed at the younger generation, from junior high and high school students to those in their 20s, we will raise themes related to issues affecting the future generation of young people from a wide range of areas, from politics and social issues to higher education and school, and provide neutral information on the issues raised and a forum for deeper dialogue among people of the same generation. By actually "voting" on the website, we will create an opportunity for each junior and senior high school student to actively participate and express their opinions. We also publish articles on note reporting on voting results that compile the "voices" of junior and senior high school students, as well as interviews with experts, and we also provide a forum for planning and dialogue with opinion leaders.

This book examines the true feelings of Generation Z, which were revealed through the activities of the "School General Election Project," using vast amounts of data and real-life conversations. The data is divided into three major themes: "Generation Z x Politics," "Generation Z x Gender Equality," and "Generation Z x Environmental Issues," and is graphed for easy-to-understand explanations.
