Nagasaki's industry-academia-government collaboration course for regional revitalization...
In the industry-academia-government collaboration class that began in 2022, students taking the lecture "Society and Tourism Informatics I" by Associate Professor Yutaka Ichifuji, who specializes in data mining, tourism policy, and tourism big data at the Faculty of Information and Data Science, Nagasaki University, will propose plans for regional revitalization based on statistically processed T-POINT purchasing data as well as statistically processed data related to boarding and disembarking on Nagasaki buses from the regional IC card, the NTAS T-CARD.

"Once in a Century Nagasaki" Planning and proposal for an event to attract visitors mainly from Generation Z
This was the second time the class was held, and the theme was "Planning an event that will attract many people, especially Generation Z, to Nagasaki City" during this "once-in-a-century period of transformation in the city," which is also being touted as "Nagasaki's once-in-a-century transformation." 62 students participated, exceeding last year's figure (43 students participated last year), and three group work sessions were held.
In addition, project presentations were held on Friday, December 1st and Friday, December 8th, 2023, and 13 projects were presented that utilized the creative ideas unique to university students living in Nagasaki. Representatives from CCC Marketing Research Institute, Nagasaki City Hall, and ntas also participated on the day, providing feedback on the project and holding lectures on the challenges and initiatives facing Nagasaki City, and engaging in practical discussions on regional revitalization in Nagasaki, involving universities, private companies, and government officials.

Nagasaki University, CCC Marketing Research Institute, Nagasaki City, and NTAS will consider developing the results of this industry-academia-government collaboration class into initiatives that will further revitalize the Nagasaki region.

Summary of the proposals by the selected outstanding teams

Nagasaki University
The Christmas Market that brightens up Nagasaki City's winter

- Based on lifestyle estimates, we proposed holding a Christmas market to young people who are highly into night owls, information sharing, and new things.

Nagasaki University
Nagasaki Fish Festival: An adventure to experience the four seasons of the sea

・Nagasaki Prefecture boasts some of the highest fishing yields in the country, and we will be showcasing the abundance of fish that can be caught in the prefecture throughout the seasons.
・In response to the issue of low interest in fish among Generation Z, we planned to hold a fish-themed event.
・The presentation was highly praised for conveying the thoughts of the presenting team.

Nagasaki University
Matching event connecting inventors and capitalists

- We proposed holding an event to match young inventors with capitalists, in response to social issues such as a decline in motivation to learn among high school and university students and a decline in Japan's research capabilities.
- In addition to presentation events by inventors, we are also considering a wide range of events that participants can enjoy, such as booth exhibits and talk sessions by YouTubers.
- Based on bus boarding and alighting data, the timing of events will also be considered.
- Branding Nagasaki as a city of inventors was evaluated as contributing to increasing the attractiveness of Nagasaki.

Comments from each person in charge
■Comment from Associate Professor Yutaka Ichifuji
This time, we ensured that there was ample time for meetings and had each participant work on a task in small groups. In addition, time was set aside for mid-term presentations and feedback from the companies was also provided, which ultimately resulted in excellent proposals and presentation materials for all teams. In the final presentations, the presenters showed great ingenuity in their presentations to get people to pay attention and listen, and the results of their hard work were evident everywhere. I hope that they will absorb this experience and the good ideas of other teams and apply them to their future research.

■ CCC Marketing Research Institute: Ryoko Zaitsu
This time, 13 teams participated, and we were surprised at the variety of ideas and plans that came out, far more than we had expected. I imagine that the work of incorporating the data provided by CCC MK HOLDINGS and various statistical data into the plans, as well as the work of working out the details of the plans through group work, was more difficult than expected, but each team's presentations conveyed the sincerity with which they worked. I would be happy if the experience in this class helps you in your future studies at university or gives you some hints for when you enter the workforce.

■Nagasaki City Information Policy Manager: Seiichi Higuchi
As the city undergoes a once-in-a-century transformation, progress is being made in developing facilities (hardware) to meet the needs of young people. This time, we asked them to research the theme of events (software) that utilize facilities within Nagasaki City. When planning the event, the participants researched and analyzed various information and data, which allowed them to rediscover Nagasaki City's strengths and weaknesses and make use of those strengths. Each group presented a unique event, and I was amazed at their ability to plan such a wide range of content in such a short period of time. The experience of planning and presenting at this event will surely be useful to you in the future, and I hope you will continue to keep in mind the revitalization of the city of Nagasaki.

■NTUS Corporation: Osamu Hachiya
Because the content and level of the presentation was so high, we were able to make comments that were almost genuine. I think that deciding on a theme and creating PowerPoint materials as a group is somewhat difficult in itself, but all the presentations by the groups were excellent and I enjoyed them all. We hope that you will use this assignment as a stepping stone to gain more experience in analysis and presentation, and that you will be successful in the real world.

■ Overview of the Faculty of Information and Data Sciences, Nagasaki University
The Faculty of Information and Data Science at Nagasaki University was established in April 2020 based on the Information Engineering Course of the Department of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. The first class will graduate in March 2024, and the graduate school (Master's and Doctoral programs) will be established in April of the same year.
Our faculty offers two courses: Information Science (IS) and Data Science (DS). In the DS course, students take courses in big data analysis and artificial intelligence, while in the IS course, students take courses in hardware and software, from the basics to applications. Students can take subjects from both courses, allowing them to study a wide range of subjects according to their interests. While the number of faculties and departments in Japan where students can study DS is increasing, an environment where students can study both IS and DS is extremely rare, and is a unique feature of our faculty.
Our department aims to develop practical human resources with a wide range of knowledge by designing a curriculum that allows students to learn the knowledge and skills of both DS and IS necessary for "manufacturing."
