-Four stores: TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE, SHARE LOUNGE, re-search, and CHEEAT TOKYO-
Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yasunori Takahashi; hereinafter referred to as "CCC") and Tokyu Land Corporation (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hiroaki Hoshino; hereinafter referred to as "Tokyu Land") concluded a "Urban Development Agreement" in May 2023, aiming to create excitement through the power of culture in the Greater Shibuya Area*1 centered on Shibuya. Based on this urban development agreement, on Thursday, July 25th, the following businesses will open in the commercial area of Shibuya Sakura Stage (hereinafter referred to as "Shibuya Sakura Stage") owned by Tokyu Land: TSUTAYA BOOKS, the largest bookstore in the Shibuya area, operated by CCC; SHARE LOUNGE, its fourth store in Shibuya; re-search, operated by CCC ART LAB; and CHEEAT TOKYO, a souvenir shop planned by CCC MARKETING RESEARCH INSTITUTE (hereinafter referred to as "CCC MARKETING RESEARCH INSTITUTE") that supports local communities and producers through food. By making the most of the various resources and experience that Tokyu Land and CCC possess, we will create a space that will bring more excitement to the Shibuya area than ever before.
As the first step in the urban development agreement, the two companies have been carrying out an art project titled "Might Be Classics" by CCC ART LAB at facilities near Shibuya Sakura Stage over four sessions over a period of approximately one year since June 2023. By focusing on art that is still relatively unfamiliar in Japan and has limited opportunities to present it, this project aims to create a space where each artist can thrive as the main character, and to expand the circle of co-creation between artists and art fans in the city of Shibuya, where young people with cutting-edge sensibilities and strong communication skills gather. It was started with the desire to provide and support the next generation of artists with a venue to showcase their work, and to create opportunities for artists from different genres to connect through this venue.
As a new initiative, Shibuya Sakura Stage will combine the various intellectual capital that CCC possesses to develop one of Shibuya's largest bookstores, the fourth "SHARE LOUNGE" in the Shibuya area, an art community space, and a food-based venue for supporting the local community.
"Urban Development Agreement" creates excitement through the power of culture
Tokyu Land and CCC have concluded a "City Development Agreement" to build a comprehensive, mutually cooperative relationship in the greater Shibuya area, utilizing the various resources of both companies, such as their facilities and content, to hold culture-based events and support the next generation of artists, with the aim of creating a "bustling city that nurtures culture."
Shibuya Sakura Stage has undertaken a new form of "tenant co-creation" that goes beyond the traditional lease-to-own relationship, and has hosted events at the Shibuya Art Collection Store (hereinafter "SACS"), an event space located very close to Shibuya Sakura Stage. In addition, the company is also working to promote the creation of a lively town, the formation of a community, and area branding through events held in various locations throughout the greater Shibuya area.
