- A cozy book and cafe that combines Wuxi tradition with modern design, aiming to become the city's third place -
Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yasunori Takahashi) and its subsidiary, TSUTAYA Investment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., have signed a franchise agreement with Wuxi Chengyu Culture Management Co., Ltd. to open the TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Wuxi Zhouxinli Store, the first TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE in Jiangsu Province, China, on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
The TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Wuxi Zhouxinli store will open in Zhouxinli, a new commercial area located in the heart of Wuxi City's Economic Development Zone, which has a history of over 100 years and is home to many Japanese companies. Zhouxinli, located a five-minute walk from Zhouxinyuan Station on Subway Line 4, is part of an urban regeneration project based on the concept of "The Landmark of City Growing," which aims to redevelop the city by building new modern architecture while preserving its historical elements.
The newly opened TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Wuxi Zhouxinli Store also inherits the characteristics of Wuxi's traditional culture, preserving the green roof tiles and white walls that are the original landscape of the Jiangnan water town, while fusing them with a modern design to create a store space that evokes the historical context of Zhouxinli.

(1) "BOOK & CAFE" - a comfortable third place
The concept of "TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Wuxi Zhouxinli Store" is "Third Place of City."We aim to create a comfortable space that can be your own separate place from your home or workplace.
The first floor features a stationery and general merchandise section with a wide range of ideas, as well as a cafe area, which is an important element of a third place. The CAFE area is a space that exudes a sense of nostalgia and calm, with a specially designed cafe counter that mimics the grain of old wood. In addition to the 70 seats inside the store, there are 72 seats on the terrace outside, the largest of any TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE in mainland China, for a total of 142 seats.
2) Miscellaneous goods that make life more enjoyable and Japanese IP content
We stock a wide variety of miscellaneous goods to add joy to the lives of customers who visit TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Wuxi Xinzhouli Branch. We offer a wide range of products, including designer stationery that inspires creativity, living room goods that are useful in everyday life, and kitchen goods that enhance cooking and dining scenes.
We also offer a wide range of "IP (intellectual property) content."In addition to offering a wide variety of "special effects" content, a part of Japanese entertainment culture, to Chinese customers, we have also prepared a "limited special edition collection of works" that compiles the works of anime illustrator Mai Yoneyama. The collection includes autographs and illustrations, making it a valuable work that is no longer available in Japan.

The store's entrance has a distinctive book-shaped design. The store design utilizes local raw materials and expresses the spirit of Jiangnan ink painting using modern techniques, such as finishing the walls with paint made from crushed purple clay, the clay used to make high-quality Wuxi tea utensils known as "purple clay tea utensils."The store has many windows, allowing plenty of natural light to stream in, making the window seats a new place to read a book.
The second floor has a higher ceiling and a triangular roof that gives it an open feel. This "Forest of Books" offers approximately 30,000 inspiring books on literature, art, work styles, and more, and we invite you to discover a book to spend your reading time at BOOK & CAFE.
(4) Kids area for parents and children to enjoy
The KIDS area is a space where parents and children can enjoy themselves, with children's books categorized by age group, as well as products that can be used as gifts, a corner with educational toys that can be used and tried out, and a wide staircase where you can sit. After the opening, we also plan to hold events such as picture book readings.
