-Opening of the largest bookstore in Cambodia, a country with high expectations for economic development-
Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yasunori Takahashi; hereinafter "CCC") and TSUTAYA BOOKS Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (hereinafter "TBM"), a joint venture between CCC and Sojitz Corporation, have signed a franchise agreement with Urban Living Solutions Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "ULS"), a Cambodian developer, to open TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE AEON MALL Phnom Penh on Thursday, April 24, 2025. This will be the first store in Cambodia, a country with high expectations for economic development.
Cambodia maintained a GDP growth rate of approximately 7% even after the Lehman shock, and has been experiencing positive growth since 2021, excluding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. High economic growth is predicted to continue in the future, with the population expected to increase from the current approximately 17.42 million (UN statistics: 2023) to approximately 20.25 million by 2050. In addition, Cambodia is a pro-Japanese country, and the Japanese flag is printed on its currency, showing the strong friendly ties between the two countries. This is the reason why we have decided to open our first store in Cambodia.
Going forward, CCC and TBM will work with ULS to create a new type of bookstore in Cambodia, aiming to create a base that will serve as a bridge for cultural exchange between the two countries, while proposing lifestyle ideas that enrich people's lives and contributing to cultural development.
