- Efforts to resolve local issues and maintain and create sustainable local communities -
Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; President and CEO: Yasunori Takahashi; hereinafter referred to as "CCC") and Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Ltd. (Head office: Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture; Representative Director: Yasunori Kamiya; hereinafter referred to as "Chubu Electric Power Miraiz") today established a joint venture company, CeneC LLC (hereinafter referred to as "CeneC").
In February 2023, the two companies signed a comprehensive partnership agreement aimed at creating a town that "fosters bonds through electricity," and are working to build a renewable energy sharing community that utilizes solar power generation and EVs in "Karuizawa Commongrounds" (Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture).
The two companies will establish CeneC, which will operate area management businesses (*1) and other activities, as a new driver of private-sector-led regional development. Based in Karuizawa Town, the two companies will expand their existing collaboration related to regional revitalization, decarbonization, and resource circulation into a comprehensive initiative.
*1 Proactive efforts by residents, business owners, landowners, etc. to maintain and improve the local environment and value of the area.
CeneC will leverage the retail and energy business know-how of both companies to expand the Karuizawa Commongrounds model to other areas, and by promoting public-private partnerships (*2) and utilizing local resources, will realize sustainable urban development that simultaneously creates a lively community and decarbonizes it.
Furthermore, through collaboration across a wide range of fields, including among the group companies of both companies, the two companies will aim to improve the convenience and appeal of each location, resolve regional issues amid a declining population, and maintain and create sustainable local communities.
*2 Both companies are participating as founding members of the Asama Zero Carbon Consortium, a regional initiative bringing together private companies, government agencies, and others to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In addition, the two companies have signed a partnership agreement (CCC) with Nagano Prefecture to promote urban development through public-private partnerships, and a comprehensive partnership agreement (Chubu Electric Power Miraiz) aimed at the sustainable development of local communities.
Going forward, through CeneC's efforts to resolve local issues and maintain and create sustainable local communities, the two companies will foster a society in which people can live together in diverse ways in the local community, connect people with each other, and people with society, and take on the challenge of creating a bright, happy future filled with energy.
