—High-quality comics, a wide selection, and early access to titles—

Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda; hereinafter referred to as CCC) announced today, June 30, 2011, that it has launched its e-book service for Android devices, "TSUTAYA.com eBOOKs" (http://tsutaya.com/ebooks/). "TSUTAYA.com eBOOKs" is the first service from "TSUTAYA.com," an online entertainment portal.

To strengthen the brand power of "TSUTAYA" as "a place for lifestyle proposals," which was the founding intention of TSUTAYA, CCC positions books and magazines as important pillars that serve as triggers and inspiration for customers of all generations to choose their lifestyles. Sales of books and magazines at TSUTAYA stores reached 97.4 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 2011, exceeding the previous year's figures for both existing store sales and total sales. The newly launched "TSUTAYA.com eBOOKs" service is a new e-book service that combines physical store and online services to meet the diverse ways in which customers enjoy books and magazines. It is TSUTAYA's first full-fledged e-book store, available for a variety of devices including Android devices, iPhones, iPads, tablets, and PCs. Initially, the service will launch for Android devices, and this fall, it will be available for iPhones, iPads, and PCs.

Regarding our lineup, we will actively feature best-selling works, such as those adapted into movies or TV dramas, and we plan to provide high-definition digital comics. On August 4, we will offer "Antoki no Inochi" (Gentosha) — which is scheduled to be released as a film in November of this year starring Masaki Okada and Nana Eikura — as a limited pre-release title on the same day as its paperback release. To allow users to enjoy the content on various devices, we have developed and implemented an original viewer that supports the dotbook and PDF formats. We are also planning to support ePub 3.0 at an early stage. Furthermore, we plan to launch a new sales method called "Books x E-books" in the near future, where we will recommend the e-book version of a title to customers who purchase its physical counterpart at TSUTAYA stores.

TSUTAYA will continue to provide new ways to enjoy books and new discoveries through its stores and online services.
