Films that are popular with the baby boomer generation, such as the top-ranked Japanese film "Thermae Romae," also ranked highly.

TSUTAYA Company, which operates "TSUTAYA" and "TSUTAYA BOOKS" nationwide and rents out over 700 million DVDs and Blu-rays annually, has compiled the number of rentals at its stores nationwide for titles that began rental between January 1st and November 30th, 2012, and will announce the most popular titles of the year as the "2012 TSUTAYA Annual Ranking."

Both "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol," which took first place overall, and "Thermae Romae," which was the top-ranked Japanese film, are works that enjoy strong support from a wide range of age groups, including the baby boomer generation, whose rental usage has been increasing. Coming in at third place is "Men in Black 3," which, when the previous film was released in theaters, ranked in the top 10 of the daily rankings. It was supported not only by fans from that time, but also by teenagers and young adults in their twenties who were seeing the series for the first time.
