Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., Entertainment Business Division (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), has announced that sales at all TSUTAYA BOOKS stores (701 stores nationwide), which handle books and magazines within the nationwide chain of TSUTAYA and TSUTAYA BOOKS, reached a record high of 110.9 billion yen (up 5.9% year-on-year) from April 2012 to March 2013. *Sales figures do not include sales through online mail order handled by T-MEDIA Holdings Co., Ltd.

After founding "TSUTAYA BOOKS Hirakata Ekimae Store (now TSUTAYA Hirakata Ekimae Main Store)," TSUTAYA began franchising its bookstore business in 1994, and has continued to expand both sales and the number of stores for 18 consecutive years. The recent increase in sales is due to the expansion of large bookstores that carry specialized books and rare books. In line with TSUTAYA's concept of being a "place for lifestyle suggestions," large bookstores are characterized by "discovery-filled sales floors" where customers can discover new lifestyles, as well as a BOOK & CAFE-style book and magazine section where customers can choose books and magazines before purchasing them while sipping coffee. This provides customers with the value of a bookstore as a "place to choose books (= lifestyle)" that goes beyond just the product selection.

TSUTAYA will continue to provide book lovers with a wide selection of books, as well as a bookstore that offers opportunities to discover new books and proposes new lifestyles.
