CCC Marketing Inc. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda; hereinafter referred to as "CCC Marketing"), a CCC Group company engaged in database marketing business, and Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda; hereinafter referred to as "CCC"), have been working in a joint project with the Watanabe Tsutomu Laboratory at the Graduate School of Economics, The University of Tokyo, to develop a new price index that utilizes T-POINT data, the "T-POINT Price Index (TPI)" (hereinafter referred to as "TPI"), and are pleased to announce that the results of this project have been compiled.
The TPI is a price index derived by aggregating, tabulating, and analyzing purchase amounts obtained from T-CARD purchasing data, which is used by 53.04 million people across Japan (number of members after name matching as of the end of March 2015) and accounts for approximately 2%*1 of Japan's total consumption amount in related sales of over 5 trillion yen*2.
The "TPI" being announced this time is the first release and is based on approximately 50,000 products and 160 items sold by T-POINT partner supermarkets and drugstores. Specifically, we create a price index by calculating and applying weights based on the University of Tokyo method to purchasing data collected from T-POINT partner companies, and comparing it with the same month of the previous year. In addition, we will announce price indexes by gender (male/female) and age group (20-39, 40-59, 60-79), which are unique features of the TPI. Going forward, we plan to announce the above "TPI" on a regular basis from the end of June. In addition, going forward, this project will expand the scope of T-POINT partners that form the basis for calculating the TPI, and will also work to refine the update frequency and calculation date and time.
CCC Marketing hopes to continue contributing to Japanese society as part of its cultural infrastructure by giving back to society the data from the T-CARD that you use every day.
