- "SHARE LOUNGE" also opens in Kyoto for the first time -
Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and COO: Takahashi Yoshinori) and TTC LIFESTYLE Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yamashita Kazuki) have opened Kyoto Tsutaya Bookstore on the 5th and 6th floors of Kyoto Takashimaya S.C. [T8], which will open on October 17, 2023.
Kyoto Tsutaya Bookstore aims to offer a wide range of historically-backed traditions and cutting-edge culture, with the concept of "creating a space where the traditions and cutting-edge of art and culture resonate and enhance each other's value."
The store will stock approximately 60,000 books, mainly on art, including poster-sized "BIG BOOKs," valuable vintage books, and the latest catalogs. The crafts and stationery items available are "masterpieces of art for everyday life" that allow you to experience the beauty of Kyoto's handcrafted craftsmanship.
The store has nine art galleries and exhibition spaces, where works by a wide range of artists, from up-and-coming young artists to well-known ones, are regularly rotated, allowing you to encounter new art. The main exhibition space on the 5th floor will open with an exhibition by sculptor Kohei Nawa entitled "KOHEI NAWA | Sandwich "Cell Field"".
Additionally, we will be opening Kyoto's first "SHARE LOUNGE" at Kyoto Tsutaya Bookstore. The "SHARE LOUNGE" will combine the functionality of a shared office with the comfort of a lounge, and as a unique offering at Kyoto Tsutaya Bookstore, will offer coffee from Kyoto-founded "Ogawa Coffee" and bread from "Shinshindo," as well as pop-up sweets unique to Kyoto that will be available for a limited time.
Characteristics of Kyoto Tsutaya Bookstore
(1) A bookstore offering a wide range of art and culture, from traditional to cutting-edge
We will have approximately 60,000 books on a wide range of topics, from art-related books on contemporary art, photography, architecture, pop culture, and more, to work style books for creative workers and humanities books. You can also pick up rare works, such as a collection of works by Hyotei, a Kyoto art museum founded over 450 years ago at Nanzenji Temple.
(2) Over 60 exhibitions in nine art galleries and exhibition spaces within the store
There are a total of nine art galleries and exhibition spaces on the 5th and 6th floors. We will present works by a variety of artists, from sculptures and contemporary art to illustrations and ceramics, to customers from Japan and abroad, creating an opportunity for them to encounter art.

We have a wide selection of modern crafts and stationery unique to Kyoto that you'll want to use forever. The lineup also includes everyday items such as glass pens exclusive to Kyoto Tsutaya Bookstore and incense holders inspired by Kyoto.
Furthermore, the store also offers original goods suitable as souvenirs, such as sweets and bath salts that humorously feature the original character "Book Tsukumogami" from Kyoto Tsutaya Bookstore and the monsters depicted in the Hyakki Yagyo Emaki scroll.
(4) “SHARE LOUNGE,” opening its first store in Kyoto. You can enjoy the taste of Kyoto in a space surrounded by art and books.
SHARE LOUNGE, the first of its kind in Kyoto, will have approximately 120 seats, including individual seats for concentrated work, private rooms for meetings or private gatherings with multiple people, and cafe and bar seats where customers can relax between shopping or work.It is a spacious and comfortable space that customers can use however they like.
The art wall inside Kyoto Tsutaya Bookstore SHARE LOUNGE displays works by Ryo Ueda. In the future, we will exhibit works by a wide range of artists, providing an opportunity to encounter new art. In the center of the SHARE LOUNGE, a three-dimensional work by Akane Saijo is on display. The large bonsai tree at the entrance is changed with each season, allowing you to experience the beautiful four seasons of Japan.
In addition to art-related books, we also have a wide selection of inspirational books and rare back issues of magazines, so you can relax and enjoy some reading time.
In addition, we will have a wide selection of local Kyoto food and drinks, allowing you to enjoy the flavors of Kyoto to your heart's content. We will also be hosting a variety of events, including art-related events, to create connections between customers.

What is SHARE LOUNGE?
"SHARE LOUNGE" opened in November 2019 at TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Shibuya Scramble Square with the concept of "a place where ideas are born and shared."This space combines the functionality of a shared office with the comfort of a lounge, and with the COVID-19 pandemic bringing major changes to working styles, it has gained support from customers and expanded its stores both domestically and internationally, with the app having been downloaded more than 140,000 times. (As of October 2023: 25 domestic stores, 2 overseas stores, 12 affiliated stores)
